What is a living system?

What is a living system?

Applied Philosophy

Dear Reader,

A living system is a Self-organising process that seeks, not to resist, but to transcend the effects of entropy on its substrate. Reproduction is a form of transcendence, as is Self-actualisation. We can use the following model to explore further:

  1. Substrate
  2. Process
  3. Value

At its foundation is the single value, the ‘Need To Survive’. This value will be reflected up into the levels of both process and substrate. Biology then is determined by the interplay between process, substrate, and the environment.
